When we went to Montreal, I was just starting to get comfortable painting urban landscapes.  The afternoon we arrived, the beauty of the city made such an impression on me that I arranged to lengthen our stay, which we were very pleased with.  The first full day, however, it rained.  My husband was discouraged, but I was excited.  I said, "This is great!  Not only are we in a beautiful city, but I can photograph reflections in the wet streets!  I'll be painting Montreal for years!"  In the end, he enjoyed the cute stores and interesting haunts that day.

Everyday we set out on our daily excursion on foot, me shooting many photos (much to my husband's annoyance), touring and enjoying local cuisine.  On the way back to the hotel, we stopped by an IGA to get some meat or fish, a vegetable, potato or rice, and a bottle of wine.  You see, our hotel was a suite, all the rooms were, and we loved it!  It was like a little apartment in the metropolis.

This scene is from that first day, in the rain!
